Weihnachten auf der Insel - Christmas on an island

Ok, I said I wanted to go to the sea in winter...and we did. Over Christmas. To Usedom, a small island just off the coast in the baltic sea (Ostsee für alle, die nicht wußten, dass es nicht "East Sea" heißt).
It's supposed to be the region in Germany with the most sunshine - except for the three days we were there!!

So, no sunshine, but...
freezing rain...

storm...
lots of snow...

and even looking for sea shells was not really fun, when you had to break them out of the icy sand and snow.

Ok, so next time I will be a little more specific about winter at the sea...but it was still nice.

Christmas is finally here...

...and I'm off on vacation (so an early christmas post):

Merry Christmas to all of you. Enjoy the holidays - enjoy the food, enjoy the snow, maybe build a snowman (or -woman)... Christmas is the one time of the year where you can get away with behaving like a kid again!!

Frohe Weihnachten euch allen. Genießt die Feiertage - das Essen und den Schnee. Baut einen Schneemann ( oder -frau)... Weihnachten ist die Zeit des Jahres wo man sich wieder wie ein Kind benehmen darf!!

Winter Wonderland

It's been a winter wonderland here the last couple of days - especially yesterday. The first thing I saw in the morning was this amazing sky and all the snow.
30 minutes later it looked like this - the view from our living room. Like a winter postcard, right?
Our dog just can't get enough of the snow, but today it's all starting to melt and turning into mush and water...not so pretty any more!

Adventskranz

It is tradition in Germany to celebrate the four sundays leading to christmas by lighting a candle at the so called "Adventskranz" (advent - wreath). This year I decided to do one without the fresh green branches, even though I miss the christmassy smell of the needles. What I don't miss is the needles in my hair after passing the wreath, since it is hanging from our ceiling in the living room.  This years wreath is needle-free,  glass-free and all the ribbons hanging from it make sure, you see it and don't bump against it (oh yes, my hubby has been very good at that - not pretty when the candles are burning...).
I admit, the colours are a little daring, but I think it gets a little oriental touch using bright red and purple.

It wasn't easy finding the right purple, though.

It's starting to feel like christmas...

Also, viel Spaß - have fun, and enjoy!!
