I hear the drums echo in the night..

Das ist die Zusammenfassung unserer ersten Woche hier in Addis. Aufgrund besagter Trommeln - die aus einer lokalen Bar gegenüber unseres Appartementhauses kamen - war unser Schlaf in der ersten Woche doch massiv beeinträchtigt. Wie ich jetzt weiß, helfen gegen Trommeln auch keine Ohrstopfen, denn man kann sie weiterhin FÜHLEN! Nachdem das Trommeln Sonntagnacht bis morgens um 5 ging haben wir am Montag das Appartement gewechselt - in ein anderes Hotel, ohne Trommeln und Baustelle nebenan. Ich weiß jetzt, dass ich die vielen Koffer, für die ich zuhause 3 Tage zum Packen gebraucht habe, auch in 1 Stunde packen kann, wenn ich muss.

That pretty much sums up our fist week here in Addis. Because of those drums - coming from a local bar across the street from our apartment building - we didn't get much sleep the first couple of days. As I know now, earplugs are no good blocking out drum sounds, because you can still FEEL the drums! After a sleepless sunday night where the drums didn't stop until 5 a.m., we decided to change apartments and move to another hotel - without drums or a noisy construction site next door. I learned, that I can pack all the suitcases not in 3 days - as I needed when I packed them at home - but in an hour, if I have to.

Regenzeit - rainy season

Ok, der deutsche Sommer ist dieses Jahr kalt und verregnet - er hat uns den Abschied damit sehr leicht gemacht, denn genau das soll uns ja auch hier in Addis erwarten. Allerdings waren die ersten zwei Tage recht trocken - bis heute.

Yes, german summer this year is cold and wet - so it made leaving for us quite easy as this is the same weather we had to expect here in Addis. But the first two days have been pretty dry - until today.

Da gehn sie hin, unsere Sachen. Wir hoffen, dass wir sie in 6 - 8 Wochen wieder heil und vollständig in Addis in Empfang nehmen können. Wir haben den Container wirklich voll bekommen und dabei haben wir noch nichtmal ALLES mitgenommen!!??

There they go, our things. We hope, we'll be able to welcome them back safe and sound in Addis in about 6 -8 weeks. We really managed to fill up the whole container - and we didn't even take EVERYTHING!!??

Packen - packing

Morgen kommt der Container und ich habe schonmal die Koffer zur Probe gepackt. Quizfrage: Zwei "Dinge" hier auf diesem Bild kommen NICHT mit nach Afrika...Leider!

Tomorrow the container will arrive and I have already packed the suitcases to check if everything fits. Question: There are two "things" on this picture we will NOT take with us to Africa...unfortunately!

Countdown

So, jetzt wirds langsam ernst.

Die Schule ist rum und noch 15 Tage bis zur Ausreise!
Um uns auf das, was kommt einzustimmen, besuchen wir noch ein Vorbereitungsseminar in der Nähe von Bonn - hoffentlich ist der Ort kein böses Omen, denn hier gibts den "Drachenfelsen".

So, now it's really getting serious.
Schools out for summer and only 15 days left until our flight to Addis.
In order to prepare for our time in Ethiopia, we are currently attending a seminar close to Cologne. Hopefully our location doesn't bode for what lies ahead - we are staying underneath the "Dragonrock".
